Our newsletter – Around the WUrld – is a quarterly electronic publication that aims to provide information for prospective, current, and past study abroad students, as well as parents and community members. Topics range from program highlights, deadlines, scholarship opportunities, events, advice, and even a trivia question.

2026 Overseas Program Photo Contest

Overseas Programs hosts an annual photo contest for returnee students from the previous fall, spring, and summer terms. The contest is held every spring and winners will be announced near the end of the semester.

This year's Spring 2026 Photo Contest is open to students that studied abroad through Overseas Programs in the 2025 calendar year.

Contest Categories:

  • Bears Abroad: This category will include photos of one or more WashU students on their study abroad program, red and green colors encouraged!
  • Postcard: This category will include photos worthy of a postcard from your host city or country. Landscapes, people, food, monuments, celebrations, etc.

How to Enter:

  • Submissions will be accepted from February 1 through February 28, 2026. Winners will be announced at the Reception on March 26.
  • For your photo to be considered for display in the Newman Exploration Center, please submit your photo in a square format!
  • You may submit one photo for one or both categories.

Prizes:

  • First and second place in each category will receive a Bookstore Bundle and a printed copy of their photo.
  • All photos will be considered for use in our hallway, social media, website, and elsewhere on campus.

Photo Contest Rules:

  • The submitted photo(s) follow ethical photography guidelines.
  • The submitted photo(s) are your own and from a program facilitated through Overseas Programs during the appropriate timeframe.
  • The submitted photo(s) were taken in your host country or on program-sponsored travel (not personal travel outside of host country).
  • The submitted photo(s) are school appropriate (no drugs, excessive alcohol, offensive language or subjects, etc.).
  • While you may submit one photo per category, in as many categories as you would like, you may only be awarded first place in one category.
