Newsletter

Our newsletter – Around the WUrld – is a quarterly electronic publication that aims to provide information for prospective, current, and past study abroad students, as well as parents and community members. Topics range from program highlights, deadlines, scholarship opportunities, events, advice, and even a trivia question.

Photo Contest

Every year, Overseas Programs holds a photo contest for students to share a few of their best captured moments abroad. This year the contest will be held in the 2024 spring semester and students who studied abroad during the 2023 calendar year (spring, summer, or fall) through Overseas Programs are encouraged to participate. There are two categories:

 

Bears Abroad: This category will include photos of one or more WashU students on their study abroad program, red and green colors are encouraged!

 

Postcard: This category will include photos worthy of a postcard from your host city or country. Landscapes, people, food, monuments, celebrations, etc.

 

People’s Choice: These photos will be posted on the Overseas Programs Instagram page where members of the WashU community will vote by liking individual posts. Submissions can be from either category. Voting will take place the first week of April!

 

Submissions will be accepted from March 7 – March 28, 2025

 

Rules

1. All photos must follow ethical photography guidelines! This means, if there are people in your photo

you should have their permission to take the photo. If there are animals in your photos they should be

treated humanely. You should not take photos in places where it is forbidden. Etc.

2. Photos must be your own and from a program facilitated through Overseas Programs during the

appropriate year.

3. Photos must be taken in your host country or on program-sponsored travel.

4. Photos must be school-appropriate (no drugs, excessive alcohol, offensive language, or subjects).

5. You may submit one photo per category, in as many categories as you would like. However, you will

only be awarded first place in one category.

6. By entering the photo contest, you permit Overseas Programs and Washington University to

use your submissions in promotional material. This includes certain photos being selected for display in

the Newman Exploration Center.

 

Judging and voting will take place through this page from March 31st – April 4th  

 

We will host an event on April 17th at 4 pm to display photos, have snacks, and announce contest winners!

 

To Enter

The Contest will accept submissions between March 7 and March 28. Voting will take place from March 31- April 4th for People’s Choice, and the Judges will convene for Bears Abroad and Postcard categories the first week of April. Winners will be announced in early April. You may submit one photo to one or all categories. For each photo, you will submit two files.

 

    1. The photo itself to this Box folder.
      1. Files must be labeled Category_Location_FirstNameLastName (example: “Postcard_Estonia_GracieLester”)
      2. Files must be JPG or PNG
      3. Files must be at least 2 MB
      4. The image should be free of watermarks, timestamps, etc.
    2. Complete this Google Form for each photo.
