Andrea Urice teaches acting and directing courses and serves as the Director of Undergraduate Studies in Drama. She has served as a co-director for the Shakespeare's Globe Summer Program in London, and she is a recipient of the College of Arts and Sciences' Excellence in Teaching Award.
Andrea Urice is a teaching professor of drama in the Performing Arts Department (PAD). Urice teaches directing and acting courses and serves as the Director of Undergraduate Studies in Drama. She is one of the rotating faculty members/co-directors in Washington University’s Shakespeare’s Globe Summer Program in London. Urice is a recipient of Washington University’s College of Arts and Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award.
PAD directing credits include Backhaus' Men on Boats, Letts’ August: Osage County, Churchill’s Love and Information and Cloud Nine, Gurira’s Eclipsed, Sater and Sheik’s Spring Awakening, Mee’s Big Love, Beckett’s Endgame, Wallace’s The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek as well as production winners of the university’s A.E. Hotchner Playwriting Award. Urice has directed five Washington University-commissioned plays by Playwright-in-Residence Carter W. Lewis.
Directing credits for the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis include premieres of Lewis’ plays Evie’s Waltz and Ordinary Nation, productions that garnered multiple St. Louis award nominations. In addition, Urice directed several productions with the Repertory Theatre’s touring Imaginary Theatre Company. Other professional directing and dramaturgical credits include Actors Theatre of Louisville, The Guthrie Theater, Milwaukee’s Theatre X, Steppenwolf Theatre, The Goodman Theatre and Organic Theatre.
Urice has served as guest director and/or teacher at the Webster University Conservatory of Theatre Arts, the University of Virginia and the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Urice received her MFA in Drama (directing emphasis) from the University of Virginia where she was a Jacob K. Javits Fellow.
